OVERALL OBJECTIVES

  • to strengthen contacts and mutual exchange of experiences between two quickly developing tourist areas; the Mersin area in Turkey and the Drama area in Greece
  • to ensure better knowledge and understanding of Turkey's policies, considering disability issues and accessibility, including local history and culture and their relation to tourism,
  • to ensure a better knowledge and understanding of the European Union within Turkey, including the values of equality for all citizens, which ensure participation for all

SPESIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • to establish and strengthen long-term sustainable cooperation and partnerships between Mersin and Drama on the field of tourist activities, especially considering accessible tourism
  • exchange of knowledge and best practices on accessible tourism in the European Union
  • to assess the existing situation considering accessibility of tourist facilities
  • to ensure a better understanding of disability

Estimated results
  • Networking activities including the creation of a network on accessible tourism between the two areas, the organization of task groups on specific issues and common workshops, the examination of good European practices
  • Assessment and evaluation of policies at national level considering accessible tourism, legislation related to tourism, good practices at regional, national level
  • Examination of case studies (Mersin – Drama), in particular the structure of the tourist industry and the accessibility of areas of tourist interest
